Method

Step 1
Soak the chana dal for 4–5 hours and rinse well.

Cook slowly until tender while retaining shape.

Prepare a tempering with mustard oil and spices.

Add onion and tomato, cooking until the masala releases oil.

Combine dal with masala and simmer slowly for 15 minutes.

Garnish with fresh coriander and serve hot.
